🌵

With its rounded segmented growth and powdery blue-green skin, Tephrocactus geometricus has become one of the most sought-after collector cacti in cultivation. But specimens with this level of mature clustering are exceptionally uncommon.

Over many years, new cladodes emerge slowly from older growth, gradually forming sculptural colonies that resemble stacked stones, desert cairns, or weathered figures shaped by time itself.

This remarkable example has developed twenty-two distinct cladodes, each carrying the soft matte bloom and geometric character that make the species so beloved among collectors.

Native to the arid highlands of Argentina, Tephrocactus geometricus survives in some of the harshest growing conditions in South America — enduring intense sun, mineral soils, and dramatic temperature swings. Mature plants become increasingly architectural with age, developing forms that feel almost more sculpted than grown.

A truly collector-grade specimen with extraordinary presence, balance, and personality.

🌱 Care Instructions

☀️ Light
Bright light to full sun preferred. In especially hot inland climates, some protection from intense late afternoon summer sun may help prevent stress or sunburn.

💧 Water
Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy. Overwatering is the fastest way to damage this species.

🪨 Soil
Requires an extremely fast-draining mineral-based cactus mix. Pumice, lava rock, decomposed granite, and coarse sand are all beneficial additions.

🌡️ Temperature
Prefers warmth, airflow, and stable dry conditions. Protect carefully from prolonged frost, winter rain, and excessive humidity.

💨 Humidity / Airflow
Low humidity and strong airflow are ideal. Avoid stagnant damp conditions, especially during cooler months.

🌿 Growth Habit
Exceptionally slow-growing clustering cactus native to Argentina. Mature specimens gradually form sculptural colonies of rounded cladodes over many years.

📝 Special Note
The soft powdery blue-gray bloom covering the cladodes is natural and highly prized among collectors. Avoid excessive handling, as the bloom can rub away permanently.
