Myrtillocalycium cv. ‘Polyp’ is an extraordinary monstrose collector cactus known for its bizarre, sculptural growth and unpredictable organic formations. Unlike typical cactus forms, ‘Polyp’ develops rounded clusters, unusual protrusions, and coral-like textures that make each specimen completely unique. Its surreal shape and vivid coloration create the appearance of a living desert sculpture — one of the qualities that makes this cultivar highly sought after by collectors.
🌵 Care Instructions
☀️ Light:
Provide bright, indirect light to gentle sun. Strong light helps maintain healthy growth and vibrant coloration, but protect from harsh afternoon sun to prevent stress or scorching.
💧 Water:
Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly during the active growing season and reduce significantly during cooler months.
🌱 Soil:
Use a very fast-draining cactus mix with excellent mineral content such as pumice, lava rock, or perlite. Proper drainage is especially important for grafted and monstrose specimens.
🌡️ Temperature:
Protect from frost and extended cold exposure. Best kept above approximately 40°F.
✨ Why It Stands Out:
‘Polyp’ is prized for its strange, almost otherworldly growth — a natural sculpture of folds, bumps, and clustered forms. Each specimen develops differently, making mature examples true one-of-a-kind collector pieces. This specimen’s dramatic shape and color contrast make it an especially striking display plant.
