Growth without a clear pattern is what defines this plant. Rather than following the vertical ribs typical of columnar cacti, Lophocereus schottii f. monstrosus expands in irregular folds—thick, undulating forms that rise upward without symmetry or repetition.

The surface is completely smooth, absent of spines, giving the plant a soft, matte presence that contrasts with its otherwise rugged structure. Light moves across it unevenly, catching on bulges and recesses, emphasizing its sculptural quality.

There is no predictable silhouette. Each column develops independently, sometimes branching, sometimes compressing, creating a form that feels closer to erosion or carving than growth. Over time, it becomes more substantial—less defined by height and more by mass and movement.
