🌵
Euphorbia moratii is one of Madagascar's most charming miniature euphorbias, prized for its compact growth habit, architectural branching, and ability to develop the appearance of a tiny living bonsai over time.
The species produces thick, angular stems that branch repeatedly into a dense network of sculptural growth. Mature plants develop tremendous character, with each specimen forming its own unique silhouette. The blue-green to gray-green stems often display subtle textural variations and beautiful natural aging that only improve with time.
Unlike many larger euphorbias, Euphorbia moratii remains compact and highly collectible, making it ideal for windowsill collections, greenhouse benches, or display in handmade pottery where every detail of its structure can be appreciated.
Its combination of rarity, manageable size, and fascinating geometry has made it a longtime favorite among collectors of Madagascan succulents.
A remarkable species prized for its:
compact architectural form
intricate branching structure
excellent container performance
and unmistakable Madagascan character
Small in stature but rich in personality, this is the kind of specimen collectors find themselves admiring again and again.
Care Instructions
☀️ Light
Bright light to full sun. Best growth and strongest form develop with several hours of direct sunlight daily. Acclimate gradually when moving into intense outdoor sun.
💧 Water
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly during active growth, then allow excess moisture to drain away. Reduce watering substantially during winter dormancy.
🪨 Soil
Requires a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix with excellent mineral content. Pumice, lava rock, decomposed granite, or other coarse amendments help promote healthy root development.
🌡️ Temperature
Protect from frost. Prefers warm conditions and performs best when temperatures remain above 45°F.
🌬️ Humidity
Low humidity is preferred. Good airflow around the plant helps maintain healthy growth and reduces the risk of rot.
📈 Growth Habit
Slow-growing clustering succulent that develops thick branching stems and increasingly complex structure with age while remaining relatively compact.
✍️ Special Note
Like most euphorbias, this species contains a white latex sap that may irritate skin and eyes. Handle carefully when pruning or repotting and wash hands after contact.
