Euphorbia pseudocactus f. cristata is a specific form of the Euphorbia pseudocactus plant, known for its unique crested growth habit. This means that the plant's normal growth point has mutated, causing the stems to fan out and create interesting, sculptural forms.

Key Features:

  • Appearance:
    • Multi-branched, dwarf-stemmed succulent shrub.
    • Stems often display distinctive yellow V-shaped markings.
    • Forms large mounded clumps, potentially reaching up to 2 meters in diameter.
    • Crested form has fan-shaped stems, forming snaky ridges or crowded clusters.
    • Can grow quite large, even exceeding 1 meter in height and diameter in older specimens.
  • Growth:
    • Fast-growing.
    • Can be grown indoors or outdoors in suitable climates (USDA Hardiness Zones 9a-11b).
    • Prefers bright light to partial shade.
    • Responds well to warmth, with active growth in late spring and summer.
    • Requires porous, well-draining soil.
    • Very sensitive to frost.
  • Watering:
    • Requires thorough watering when the soil is dry to the touch during the active growing season.
    • Overwatering is a common issue and should be avoided, especially in winter.
    • Can tolerate some drying out between waterings.
  • Propagation:
    • Primarily propagated by stem cuttings.
    • Take cuttings in spring or summer for best results.
    • Allow cuttings to callous for 3-4 weeks before planting.
  • Toxicity:
    • Like other Euphorbia species, this plant produces a milky white sap (latex) that is poisonous.
    • The latex is particularly dangerous for the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.
    • Handle with extreme caution to avoid contact with eyes and mouth.
    • May cause skin irritation, rash, and discomfort.
    • Ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, and diarrhea.
    • If sap comes into contact with the eyes, it can cause severe eye irritation and potentially blindness.
  • Safety:
    • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
    • Wear gloves when handling the plant to prevent sap contact.
    • Seek immediate medical attention if contact with sap or ingestion occurs.
