Cleistocactus colademononis, commonly known as Monkey Tail Cactus, is one of the most distinctive and beloved trailing cacti in cultivation. Native to the rocky cliffs of Bolivia, this unusual species is famous for its long cascading stems covered in soft white hair-like spines that give it its unmistakable appearance.
Over time, each tail continues to grow longer, creating a dramatic hanging specimen with beautiful movement and texture. Mature plants can also produce striking tubular red flowers, adding another layer of character to this already unforgettable cactus.
🌵 Care Instructions
☀️ Light: Bright light to full sun. Acclimate gradually when moving into stronger direct sun.
💧 Water: Water thoroughly when soil is completely dry. Reduce watering during cooler months.
🌡️ Temperature: Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.
🌱 Soil: Use a very fast-draining cactus mix with excellent drainage.
✨ Why It Stands Out
This established Monkey Tail Cactus already has 6 beautiful trailing stems, giving it the sculptural form collectors look for without waiting years for a young plant to develop.
Its combination of flowing growth, silvery-white texture, and unusual form makes it one of the most instantly recognizable species in any cactus collection.
