🌿

Light, open, and quietly expressive, Bursera fagaroides carries itself more like a tree than a typical houseplant. Slender branches extend outward with intention, supporting compound leaves that break into small, serrated leaflets—each one catching light and creating a soft, shifting canopy.

The structure is what defines it. The trunk begins smooth and understated, but over time it thickens and develops character, eventually revealing the textured, peeling bark that Bursera is known for. As it matures, the plant moves away from its initial sparseness and becomes something more architectural—less about foliage, more about line, proportion, and presence.

There’s a subtle aromatic quality to the leaves and stems, a reminder of its place within the frankincense family. It’s not immediate or overpowering—just another layer that reveals itself slowly.

This is a plant that rewards patience. What starts as something minimal evolves into a sculptural form that feels increasingly intentional with age.

🌱 Care Guide

Light
Prefers bright light to full sun. Strong light encourages tighter growth and helps develop trunk character over time.

Water
Water thoroughly, then allow soil to dry completely before watering again. Reduce watering significantly during cooler months or periods of slower growth.

Soil
Requires a fast-draining mix. A cactus or succulent blend with added pumice or mineral components is ideal.

Temperature
Prefers warm conditions. Protect from cold and avoid temperatures below ~45°F (7°C).

Humidity
Low humidity is preferred. Good airflow supports healthy growth.

Growth Habit
Woody and branching, gradually developing a thicker trunk and more complex structure. Growth is moderate, with form improving significantly over time.

Special Note
Bursera species may drop leaves in response to stress or seasonal changes—this is normal and typically followed by new growth under the right conditions.
