🌵
Astrophytum myriostigma v. nudum f. variegata is one of the most striking and architectural forms within the species, combining smooth spineless geometry with unpredictable marbled variegation that feels almost painted across the surface.
Unlike traditional myriostigma forms covered in white flecking, the nudum variety lacks those markings entirely, exposing clean green skin and allowing the dramatic yellow variegation to become the central visual feature. The result feels bold, graphic, and unusually sculptural.
The sharply defined ribs fold inward toward a compressed central crown, creating a form that resembles carved stone more than a conventional cactus. Each section develops independently over time, with variegation shifting unpredictably across the ribs as the plant matures.
Some areas remain deep olive green while others brighten into soft yellow sectors, creating dramatic asymmetry and strong visual contrast. No two specimens ever develop alike.
Even at a relatively compact size, the plant carries a mature and highly collectible presence.
🌱 Care Instructions
☀️ Light
Prefers bright light to full sun. Strong light helps maintain compact growth, healthy coloration, and defined rib structure.
💧 Water
Water deeply but infrequently. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy.
🪨 Soil
Requires an extremely fast-draining mineral-based cactus mix. Pumice, lava rock, decomposed granite, and coarse grit are highly recommended.
🌡️ Temperature
Prefers warm, dry conditions with cool winters kept mostly dry. Protect from frost and prolonged cold moisture.
🌬️ Humidity
Thrives in low humidity with excellent airflow.
📈 Growth Habit
Slow-growing globular cactus with sharply defined ribs and highly variable marbled variegation. Develops increasing sculptural character and geometric form with age.
⚠️ Special Note
Variegated specimens may naturally develop corking, scarring, or uneven coloration over time. These characteristics are considered part of the plant’s mature collector character and individuality.
