Among cultivated forms of Astrophytum myriostigma, the Onzuka cultivar is celebrated for its extraordinarily dense white flecking, which creates an intricate mosaic across the plant's smooth, spineless body. Mature specimens with naturally produced offsets are considerably less common than solitary plants, giving this example the appearance of a small living colony. As the pups mature, each develops its own distinctive patterning, making the specimen increasingly sculptural over time.

Care Instructions

☀️ Light — Bright light to several hours of direct sun. Acclimate gradually to intense afternoon sun.

💧 Water — Water thoroughly only after the soil has completely dried. Keep nearly dry during winter dormancy.

🪨 Soil — Use a fast-draining mineral cactus mix with excellent drainage.

🌡️ Temperature — Prefers warm conditions and should be protected from frost. Avoid prolonged exposure below 40°F.

🌬️ Humidity — Low humidity with good air circulation is ideal.

📈 Growth Habit — Slow growing. Over time, the offsets may enlarge into an impressive multi-headed specimen.

✍️ Special Note — The pups on this specimen are naturally attached by relatively small connections. While every effort will be made to protect them during shipping, an occasional offset may separate in transit. This is not harmful—simply allow the pup to callous if necessary, then plant it to begin a new specimen.
