Euphorbia Bupleurifolia x Susannae -  Pineapple Euphorbia

An extraordinary hybrid Euphorbia with armored pineapple texture, sculptural caudiciform growth, and a truly ancient desert presence.

You will receive this exact specimen..
Measures approximately 3" wide × 2.5" tall.
Well rooted specimen (see photo).
Showcased here in Handmade Pottery - Moon Crater Vessel No. 164 (sold separately).
Will be shipped bare root.

🌵

This remarkable hybrid combines the spiraled, geometric tubercles of Euphorbia bupleurifolia with the clustering growth habit and compact architecture of Euphorbia susannae. The result is a deeply sculptural plant that looks more like a relic from another world than a living succulent.

Each offset rises from the swollen caudex like a tiny green pineapple crown — glossy, textured, and beautifully armored. The contrast between the pale corking skin and vivid emerald growth tips gives this specimen exceptional depth and character.

An outstanding collector specimen with tremendous visual presence despite its compact size.

Showcased here in Handmade Pottery — Desert Coil Vessel No. 162 (sold separately).

Roots as shown.
Will be shipped bare root.

Care Instructions

☀️ Light
Bright indirect light to several hours of gentle morning sun is ideal. In coastal or mild climates, filtered outdoor sun can work beautifully. Avoid harsh afternoon sun during extreme heat, especially if recently transplanted or dehydrated from shipping.

💧 Water
Water thoroughly only when the soil has dried completely. During active growth (spring through early fall), this hybrid appreciates occasional deep watering followed by full drying. In winter, reduce watering dramatically — especially in cool temperatures — as the caudex stores moisture efficiently.

🌵 Soil
Requires an extremely fast-draining mineral-based cactus mix. We recommend heavy pumice, lava rock, decomposed granite, or coarse sand blended with minimal organic material. Poor drainage is the fastest way to lose caudiciform Euphorbias.

🌡️ Temperature
Protect from frost and prolonged cold moisture. Best grown above 50°F. Thrives in warm, dry environments with good airflow.

🪴 Drainage
Excellent drainage is absolutely essential. Always use containers with drainage holes and avoid allowing water to sit around the base of the caudex.

🌿 Growth Habit
A slow-growing but highly rewarding hybrid that develops increasing texture, corking, and architectural character with age. Mature specimens become especially dramatic as offsets cluster and stack around the central caudex.

⚠️ Important Note
Like all Euphorbias, this plant contains a white latex sap that can irritate skin and eyes. Handle with care and keep away from pets and children.
